Statutory Interpretation and Indiana’s Supreme Court

In at least eight majority opinions written during the last several years, the Supreme Court of Indiana has referenced a particular treatise on statutory interpretation: Reading Law: The Interpretation of Legal Texts by former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and Bryan Garner. In each case, the Indiana Supreme Court either quoted from the treatise directly or cited it when discussing a particular canon of statutory interpretation. Given the number of times the book has been referenced, anyone practicing in front of this Court should read it.
