Exciting News! In-person oral arguments coming soon!
Beginning April 22, 2021, the Supreme Court of Indiana has begun scheduling oral arguments to resume in-person. Throughout the pandemic, the Court held oral arguments via Zoom. The format of the argument changed somewhat, in that appellants were given two uninterrupted minutes at the beginning of the argument, and then justices asked questions in order of seniority. It worked well, and some preferred the format. But a return to normal is certainly welcome as well.
There are still some limitations, however. Only two attorneys were party will be permitted in the courtroom with the Justices, and no public gallery will be permitted. Thankfully, members of the public will still be able to view the oral arguments online. This has been a great tool for practitioners, not only for staying current regarding trends in the law, but also in preparing briefs on particular issues being considered by the Court.
