An Update for Indiana Offender Registrants

Within the last year, I have received a number of communications from Indiana registrants, all explaining the same scenario. They were nearing the end of their 10-year registration period here in Indiana, when they received a letter from their local sheriff, indicating that their registration status had been reviewed and their registration period extended to life.

Earlier this week, I reviewed a letter where the local sheriff gave more detail about this process. Local registration coordinators have been instructed that when a registrant is nearing the end of his/her registration period, the coordinator is to submit the registrant’s case to the D.O.C. for review to determine whether there are any circumstances that would lead to extending the registration period.

If you have any questions about your registration requirements, please email me.
