Busy Month of Oral Arguments for the Office

Unlike a lot of places that slow down in the summer, apparently our year at the firm is only speeding up. I have two oral arguments set in the month of June. On June 6th, the Supreme Court of Indiana will hear oral arguments in A.R. v. State, a case challenging the juvenile court’s order requiring our client to register as a sex offender for an act that occurred when he was only 13 years old.

Then, on June 22nd, the Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in Heidi Littlefield v. State, a case challenging our client’s convictions for murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The argument is part of the Court’s “Appeals on Wheels” program and may be Judge Robb’s last oral argument before her retirement. This will be a particularly special argument for me, since I started my legal career as Judge Robb’s law clerk, and it was one of the best experiences I have had as a lawyer. No other experience could have prepared me for appellate practice better than her clerkship.

Ironically, we rarely take vacations. But we have two planned this summer, and of course one fell on the same day of the “Appeals on Wheels” oral argument. A few modifications to our flight, hotel stay, and rental car, and we’re still good to go!
